How do colleges look at independant study classes? How do you make sure that they realize you are self-studying for an AP exam instead of just taking a studyhall and doing nothing?

I'm going to take an independant study next year, my senior year, so obviously I won't have an AP score to prove I took the class and learned the material well before apps are due. I just want to make sure I can get the credit and that it will be worth the effort of self-studying before I commit to taking it.

I'm planning on self-studying Physics C with two friends of mine, just in case you were wondering. I want to get physics on my transcript, even though I will have 3 years of chem (honors, IB I and IB II) when I apply for college.

Sorry I posted this twice in two different forums. I wasn't sure where to post it.
