Self-studying for AP Music Theory Test

I hear from many people the AP Music Theory test is very difficult. I haven’t taken AP Music Theory as a course, though as someone who plays piano arguably at a concert-pianist level, how difficult might the test be? Of course, it won’t be something I can just hop into, but do you think plentiful experience playing piano would make self-studying for the test far less demanding?

Why do you want to take the AP Music Theory test? There are lots of good reasons - intellectual challenge, something to demonstrate your skill, etc., especially if you don’t want to pursue a BM. However, many music conservatories/BM college programs will not give credit for the exam. Some will give credit to a non-major student as an elective. Check out individual programs. Something to be aware of.

I’m wanting to take it because passing the test would count as 6 credit hours towards fine arts. Basically, I would have all my college generals done; if I don’t take/pass it, I’ll still have a fine arts general credit to complete
