Self Studying Japanese?

Is anybody doing this or want to do this? Maybe we can do it together?

If you learn it from online does that count as self studying, or does it have to be from a text book? When youve been self studying for a year or two then you take the JLPT?

Any information on self teaching Japanese will be greately appreciated.

Also is their a program were I can live in japan with a host family for a couple of months or a year?

^check out lion's club for being an exchange student...

hmm and i take japanese in school....it's really not that hard to self study i don't think...main thing might be getting the right sounds for hiragana/katakana

To anyone who self studied- What method did you use and what books did you use/audio tapes/what have you? This really seems interesting

Yeah what books did you all use?
Okay i will check out lions club.

i study japanese in school and learning the grammar/vocab on your own isn't too difficult...but you may want to watch/listen to japanese media (to get listening comprehension down...movies are great study aids) and try talking to native speakers (improves conversation skills)...i recently did a 5-week homestay program in Japan and it helped me soooo much. i don't know of any independent homestays though...good luck!
