which system would you rather have? semester or quarter?

I prefer the quarter system, since the finals would only cover 10 weeks of materials. Whereas in the semester system (BERKELEY), the finals cover 15 weeks of materials.

Semester. It’d be less stressful having only two Finals Weeks, IMO. I don’t mind more content. :)

I actually really like the quarter system, even though I thought I’d hate it. You get much more variety in classes, choosing between 3-4 (and sometimes 5) courses per quarter. If you don’t like a class, you’re only in it for 10 weeks vs. 18. We have finals before spring break, so there’s never any homework or reading over the holiday. And it keeps you on task, since there’s no room to slack off!

semester because 1 month of winter break.

At the moment, I like quarter system better just because after spring break, I’ve been swamped in round 2 of midterms, while all my friends at quarter system schools have been taking it easy with new classes. Also with quarter system, you are able to get rid classes you hate faster instead of having to stick with them for another few weeks. And personally, since I don’t really learn everything until midterms or finals, quarter would be better. But in terms of breaks, semester is definitely better.

I haven’t done quarter system…but I think it would be a great experience. You can’t slack off…lol. I procrastinate too much…LOL.

for me, quarter sounded like a better idea than semester. more variety in classes and no worries during breaks. drop classes that i don’t like. actually, trimester seems like the best solution imo.

oh, and jsquared1125, what do you mean by “in terms of breaks, semester is better?”
