I was a semi finalist on December 19th but I was sent that 240,000 application rejection letter today at 7:20.

I am very confused. and yes, how in the world did 84,000 applicants turned to 240,000? I hope it’s a glitch because I already started my semi finalist package.

I am advancing as a Semi-Finalist and did not have a 36 ACT…
I would definitely say not to get discouraged, i think they were really looking for ex. cur. and volunteer work along with the GPA.
I have over 1,000 volunteer hours, 4 jobs held, and a 3.8 GPA.

@Just Smile- There are already five of us on the same boat! I think it’s a mistake, so let’s not worry too much. I e-mailed the person who sent the semi-finalist notification. Five of us should all send e-mail too so that he knows few people got this.

*Send the e-mail to the address shown on the bottom of the "semi-finalist notification. (The one sent on 12/19) "

I, too, have received 3 emails now. One was sent on the 20th about my semi-finalist status, and two tonight about not being a semi-finalist with the numbers changing.
I’m sleeping on this and calling tomorrow because this just seems like a huge mishap on their part. I don’t think there’s a need to worry for those who already received word of congratulations.

Please tell the rest of us what the operators say concerning that semi-finalist miscommunication when you guys talk to a representative tomorrow!

Yeah, I’ve had so many rejections. This is basically the first thing that has ever been important to me that is even within my reach. And I probably won’t be a finalist, anyway. My stats are nothing.

So, cry about it…eat some ice cream…watch some Seinfeld…and then go do your homework, volunteer, apply for more scholarships and move on. This isn’t a big loss.

Just now received an official rejection after 2 emails 4 phone calls and a immense amount of waiting. Oh well, another opportunity will arise. 240,000???

UGABound2012, when you say official rejection, do you mean that you were a semi-finalist before and now just received your rejection ? Sorry to bring it up again but I am really curious/worried/confused/…more mixed emotions.

Everybody, Im a semifinalist and am putting that on my application. Can anyone confirm that it is 240,000? It would just improve the honor a bit

@hischoolstudent, I believe it’s ~80,000 applicants and ~240,000 applications, like someone pointed out earlier. Shouldn’t make a difference when you put it on your college applications though, as Coca-Cola is recognized regardless.

Sooooo, if everyone gets a rejection notice, and counted as an application multiple times, I wonder if they may have double counted semifinalists as well. Instead of haveing 2200, they may end up with only 1200. I do believe that they need new computer programmers.

And for those that received both an email that says you advanced, as well as a rejection, and everyone that received multiple rejections…I am sure that the Coca-Cola Scholars foundation will tell you that it is your own fault. Kind of like the “check your spam folder” message we heard all day yesterday.

Congrats to all of those who we think have advanced to semifinalist! Good luck with part two of this process, hope they get their act together for your sake!

For those who recieved rejection emails, bigger and better things to come!

DD got 3 rejection emails yesterday. She had started one application and couldn’t remember her log in for it, so she completed & submitted a second. 2 of the emails indicated that they couldn’t notify people with more than one application; 1 was just a regular rejection, including the spam explanation. I don’t remember - did the application have a “submit” button? Her first app was nowhere near complete, & I would think the system would be able to kick out duplicate apps?
