Semifinalist Status: What does it really mean?

What is the impact, if any, of semifinalist status in the admissions process at Ivy and Ivy calibre schools. Would making semifinalist from a top state like Mass. or Md. give a boost to an applicant who did not end up doing quite as well (under 1500) on the SAT? Would it be viewed as part of the applicant's overall standardized test performance

well if you make SF you'll msot likely make finalist, and some colleges really like to boast high numbers of NM finalists...and i believe its 1% or less than 1% of students nationwide that achieve finalist status so its pretty prestigious and special

look at national merits annual report. it says how many scholars go where. scholar means you are something beyond test scores, but scores dont make you, they just tease you into THINKING you're worthy...

WE'RE ALL REJECTED IN THE END AHHHHHHHHH.

sorry, i have to write my NMS essay too. GAAAAAAAAH.

It's unlikely to help much. When I was applying to college, I emailed adcoms about my Midyear Report- I wanted to know if I should hold off sending it until I found out if I was a NMF (about a week later). The unanimous reply was "Send it; we don't care about NM. We have your scores."
