I was wondering on the supplement whether or not I should list my PSAT scores. I was a commended scholar (score in the 99th percentile), but my scores weren't really excellent. Should I still include them?

No. Saying you are a commended scholar is enough. What counts in terms of scores is SAT scores.

ok thank you!

Don't even say you're commended. Too many people are commended.

Say you are commended. It's still an honor even though Harvard gets many applicants who are National Merit and Commended.

definitely say that you are commended

I thought once you hit the 99th percentile mark you were a national merit semifinalist?

It varies by state. 99th percentile nationally may not be 99th percentile in your state.

what's the dif between Commended and National Merit Semi Finalist?

semifinalists got higher scores, are able to qualify for finalist status and the scholarship

National Merit Semifinalist is the next stage and the final stage would be Finalist, so it looks better if you're Semifinalist than if you're just Commended. 90% of semifinalists go on to become finalists, btw.

not me :( i was a semifinalist

when do semi-finalists find out if they made finalist status?

yeah I'm wondering that too--I didn't write that essay for nothing.

I think its march/april. Yeah, it makes no sense to me either because I don't think NMSC has anything better to do with their time, so it shouldnt be that hard to pick out 1000 bad essays in more than a month or two. I think there were like 16300 semifinalists and they gotta narrow it down to 15000 finalists. Considering not every semifinalist even sent in the app for finalist consideration, i have no idea why it takes so long for them to announce finalists.
