Send scores automatically or wait until score comes back

My now-junior son took the ACT this past summer and made a 34. He didn’t send his scores anywhere except Ole Miss, where he took some dual enrollment classes. He’s taking it again in December. They actually ask you to “rank” the colleges. He’s not absolutely sure he will make a 34 again, so we’re just thinking it would be better to get the score and then send it to half a dozen schools in which he has some vague interest.

Any thoughts on this? Does it make any difference in which way the score is received? What’s the deal on the “ranking?”

Do not send the scores until you see them. It is $12 to send each set of scores, but I think the control it gives you over the scores is well worth it.

The rankings are meaningless.

I agree. Unless you are up against the wall in terms of timing don’t send scores automatically except to safety schools. How the college gets your score doesn’t matter

The OP’s son is a junior, so there is no rush to send.

Thank you. I think I will remove the scores.
