Hi guys,

I applied to M&T during the ED cycle, with Wharton ED as my single-degree option, and got deferred from both :(

I realized how difficult it must be to get into M&T and that I would be more than satisfied with Wharton alone. Hell, I was applying to Wharton ED anyways because it was my dream school but decided to go for M&T as well because I was considered to have a relatively good shot, and hey, why not?

So, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to send in a "Why Penn?" essay that's specific for Wharton because, during the ED cycle, I responded directly to the whole "Tell us about how you'd pursue x, y, and z for YOUR CHOSEN PROGRAM" or something like that. So my essay was very specific to M&T. Now, I want to show my utmost interest in Wharton alone...should I send a "Why Wharton" essay?

Thanks a lot!

talk about what else penn has to offer you too. they aren’t only concerned about wharton cuz who knows, maybe down the road you transfer to CAS or SEAS. then whats going to happen if wharton was all you talked about. is there anything else penn has to offer that you like? or maybe in case wharton isnt for you?

Haha, well, I’m extremely interested in Wharton and have researched it incessantly. I also talked to friends who go there. I think I’ll love the place and all it has to offer…and I highly doubt I’d transfer out if I get in.

All I’m wondering is if admissions officers would be irritated about reading another essay, and that too in February (I got the idea recently…).

wait a second, you mean write another essay and submit it now?!

Yes. I know it’s late, but the idea just came to my mind and it’s not like a main essay that I’m sending. Just a note, pretty much, that I would love to go to Wharton just as much as M&T. I just don’t want the adcoms to think that I’d want M&T and nothing else…

dont send another essay… they’ll just throw it in the trash. probably harm you for trying to get an unfair advantage.

I wouldn’t. I don’t think you want to hassle the people reading your application at this point unless it’s absolutely necessary.
