Hi guys,

I'm in a bit of a confusing situation. I did marginally better (about 40 SAT points, when you convert the ACT to SAT points) on my ACT than my SAT, and I just like the ACT test better in general. I plan to study for both over the summer, with a tilt towards ACT, and send my scores based on which one is better. Most schools ask for either SAT Reasoning and Subjects or ACT. I've been preparing for SAT Subject tests in Chemistry, Math II, and Spanish. If I were to get an 800 on Chem (which I already took and was VERY confident on, but have yet to receive score) and 720+ on the other two, would it be alright to send both ACT and SAT Subject tests, even if they aren't required? Just so you know, I am considering many top-tier universities (HYMS, Penn, NYU, Georgetown, etc.). Thanks!

Now I realize that some schools require SAT Subject test scores even if you choose to take ACT. Still, would it to be beneficial to send my SAT Subject test scores to those that don’t?

It couldn’t possibly hurt to send good results.

For the schools you mention, Stanford does not require SAT IIs but recommends two regardless of whether you submit SAT or ACT. NYU now has four altenatives – you can submit SAT or ACT w/writing or three SAT IIs or three AP scores. As to the others, Penn and Yale are the only two that allow you to submit the ACT score in lieu of both the SAT and SAT IIs. The rest you list require IIs even if you submit ACT and will consider the IIs for admission along with the ACT. Both Penn and Yale follow the following rule for determining admission: the ACT will be considered without considering any SAT IIs to determine admission and thus IIs are considered only if you are relying on the SAT for admission. Nevertheless, if you have high IIs send them anyway because you never know whether a particular reviewer might look at the scores.
