Sending additional material or updates after applying?

If a student applies RD, but wishes to send an updates to college in early spring, i.e. early to mid March- is it still possible that such updates would have an impact on the application?
Updates would be something fairly significant like publishing a paper, specific awards/accolades, or any significant update/progress in the students EC activities (let's say the student has been fundraising money for a certain cause, and hits a new record). I know students sometimes send in letters after they're wait listed, but can sending in such updates before receiving a decision have any impact?

Thanks!

You certainly can send those items provided that it’s a new development and not due to lateness. The adcom will get it and take another look at your application if they decided to defer/reject you.

Yeah, these would additional things that I’d send after I’ve sent all the required materials

I would def send information in plus send an email to the local rep. My daughter did that when applying to Wash U. She had a few interesting things happen after sending in her application in Oct for ED. So she faxed them to the admissions office and emailed the local rep. She also explained in the email why she felt WUSTL was the school for her. (she got in Btw)
