Sending application early

So I sent my applications to the cal states on the first day it opened would I have a better chance in getting in?

GPA- 3.4

SAT- 1040 (but I'm taking it again)

yes… Applying early really increases your odds of getting in.!!

I would say yes: For example at Cal State Fullerton:

CSU Fullerton will open for First-Time Freshmen applicants for Fall 2015 beginning October 1, 2014 through November 30, 2014. Apply early!

What about san diego state university do you think it would give me a higher chance since its so impacted and am i suppose to send my transcript?

It depends on the rejection rate. If the school you apply mostly just defer those not accepted, then you are safe to apply early. Otherwise, it would be better for those who need to improve their GPA or test score to wait and apply RD.

For the Cal States, if you have high stats and a high eligibility index, then you will hear back early and many times you will be offered a chance to apply for Honors. However, if your Stats are not the most competitive, then you will not have any advantage by sending your spplication early. If you applied to an impacted major (especially) at SDSU, you will be ranked by your EI and then accepted into the major from Highest EI until all spots are filled. What is your CSU GPA, major and total SAT? Also which schools did you apply.
Cal States except for SLO only have RD and most schools will start reviewing apps after the Nov 31 deadline.

typo: should be application early…

Also you only need to send in your ACT/SAT scores. You will send your transcripts after you have been accepted. SDSU did ask for Mid-year transcript after my son was accepted. It will depend upon the school.

My gpa is 3.4 for csu i know its not good i had a rough year junior year no excuses but my sat are horrible its 1040 but im taking it again

I feel like i won get accepted to any of my choices cause my gpa isnt a 4.0 especially my SAT. I was raped and it bothers me so much that I let it affect my grades. I feel like i have so much potential but the schools wont see it. I applied to long beach too and San Francisco. I dont know if ill get in since nursing is my major and after high school ill be a certified MA and EMT so Ive gained a lot of knowledge and experience of the medical field. I dont know what to think about my application anymore. Im doubting myself so much over one thing.

Did you only apply to Cal States? Was due to FA issues? You would be better off if you applied to a school that required an essay to explain your situation. Cal States are a numbers game and their is no where you can explain a drop in grades, family problems etc…

Would you consider going to a CC for 2 years and then transferring into a higher ranking school such as a UC?? At a CC you can show your potential by getting excellent grades and you can TAG into UCR/UCSC/UCD/UCI/UCSB, as long as you meet their requirements. It is also a good way to start all over again and not deal with the SAT.
If you think you are settling for a school because your grades and SAT are not up to par, then you should consider a CC.

As it stands right now:
SFSU: Match
CSULB: Low Reach (unless you are in the immediate service area and it might be a High Match)
SDSU: Reach (most of the Nursing majors were at a CSU GPA of 4.0+)

I wish you the best of luck…

My counselors say to try UCR that i have a chance but still i dont have a 4.0 and it makes me feel like theres not hope. I really wanted to get into San Diego state but now I feel like my dream is never going to happen

UCR’s average UC/GPA was 3.77 but they took about 20% of applicants in the 3.2-3.5 range last year. Also UC Merced is another option and you have the opportunity to explain your situation in one of your essays. I would take the chance and apply. You will probably have SFSU as a backup or a CC then transfer to SDSU. You seem very determined so there many different ways to make it happen, it just may take you longer…

Do You really think i wont get accepted into sdsu?

Like I said, Cal States is a numbers game. You need to calculate your Eligiblity index:
EI= (CSU GPA x 800) + (SAT Math + SAT Critical Reading). SDSU uses this number to rank all their applicants in each major. They take the highest EI and accept down until all the spots are filled. Since nursing is to competitive, if you have an EI of 3900+, then you stand a good chance.
Are you in the immediate service area?? You will get priority. If not, you will judged on the EI.

You should also look at the Stats posted on the Class of 2014 acceptance thread for SDSU to give you an idea of what it takes to get in.

No ill end up being judged by the EI. Thank you though

@Cjvperez: Do not give up, it is a long time between now and March 2015 when SDSU and many of the other Cal States will be reviewing applications and sending acceptances. All you can do is apply, hope for the best and have a contingency plan. It sounds like you can and will succeed one way or another. Do not put all your eggs in one basket and there are always different paths to achieve your dream…

Thanks for the help i already applied the first day the applications opened but it doesnt really matter I appreciate the adive

You’d fare better if you applied to holistic colleges, where you’ll be able to explain your grades. It can make a LOT of difference, which is why applying to UCR and UCM would make sense.
There are other schools but we’d need to know whether you’re willing to leave CA and what your budget is. (Also, depending on your budget, there are schools in SoCal, especially if you can raise your SAT.)
Is that 1040 out of 1600 or out of 2400?
