Sending in two deposits--waiting for FA appeal decision?

Is it okay to submit deposits at two schools if I'm waiting for the results of a FA appeal at one of them? Should I notify them about this, or just let them assume I've been accepted off a waitlist when I withdraw from one? (and I'm totally fine with losing the deposit money)

Call the one you're waiting for and ask for an extension of the acceptance date. Then you don't have to double-deposit.

Do not double deposit because you could lose both acceptances. Colleges rescind admissions for double depositers.
You can ask both colleges for an extension of the May 1 date, and tell them why you need that extension.

If you need financial aid, why would you be "fine" with losing deposit money? Every dollar counts!

Because the college I'm appealing has offered no financial aid whatsoever..3.5k in loans, and 2.1k work study, due to my noncustodial parent's high income/assets. The other school has offered a half-tuition scholarship..

Don't hold your breath expecting the appeal to change anything if you've got a noncustodial with a high income. Such appeals are rarely successful.

It sounds like the half-tuition scholarship is merit-based so doesn't depend on income.

If the school to which you are appealing won't give you an extension to reply, that says volumes. Deposit with the school you can afford.
