I couldn’t make an SAT date so I registered for an upcoming one on January 23rd. The scores for that will be around sometime in February (about three weeks after the date) and I have heard their deadline is on January 31st. I have taken the test twice before and I don’t like my scores, this will be my last chance. Should I submit my application and contact them to see what they can do about it? Or submit the score I have now? (super low, 1620) I’m applying regular decision.
On the SAT, I believe there is an option (either online or on the paper form) where you can have them directly send the scores to schools you select. Most schools with take that as your score, even if they get it late, but won’t take scores you send in your self.
But do you think NYU will take it?
I have the exactly same situation this year, so I have sent a message to NYU and this what I have got in response:
“You are welcome to add the January 24th date to your application, but we cannot guarantee that it will be considered as ED II notification is scheduled for February 15th.”
Since I am applying on EDII, I am kind of… hm, I have messed up with this thing.
From my own experience I can say, that actually NYU average SAT score starts from 1900, unless you are applying to Tisch ans you have an awesome portfolio. But for CAS or Stern or Steinhardt etc. even 2000 might not be competitive. I do not wanna upset you because I am in the same exact situation and I have spent many days crying and trying to figure it out what will be the best option to do (NYU is literally my dream school since I started attending primary school) and it is not really likely to rise your SAT in two months by 400-500 points. I am not saying that it is not possible; however, it is not likely to happen. Regular decision makes it even more complicated, because that is something like the last turn and they admit most of those most competitive students, because they know that it is the last portion. For example, in EDI they have to choose kind of blindly because they do not know who they will got later. In other words - unless you have an awesome EC’s, essays, recommendations - I would not be sure if I would want to spend 70 dollars for applying to NYU, when even being unsure whether they will accept my January’s scores. With 1620 it is just impossible for you to be considered for admission. They admission, unfortunately, works such as they have a certain threshold of GPA and SAT’s, they combine all their data and they reject immediately all those who do not reach this threshold. And then, they take mostly only 25-35% of those best ones from those who are high above their average threshold. This is kind of “confirmed”, however, things are not always black or white. Please do not be discouraged, there are both of us having a problem with that.
We can discuss this topic somwhere else than here, it if you want to.
Sorry for possible mistakes above, I was just typing so fast.
Good luck.
