I plan on applying to NYUStern early decision (due Nov 1st 2015) and was planning on taking the Oct SAT which will probably be around Oct 1st-12th and it takes about 19 days to get, so will i be able to send those scores in (assuming theyre higher than previous ones) before theyre due? Also i read online that it takes a week for the schools to get the score, but i thought it was all electronic?? Could somebody please just explain the whole process of sending SAT scores in etc. and help me out? Thank you so much in advance!!!
From past experience - My October scores reached my November 1st schools before the deadline. It took less than a week (I think it only took 2-3 days, actually) and I didn’t even use rush! There are some nightmare stories, though. But generally, it shouldn’t be an issue.
Most importantly, get the main part of your application in (essays, personal info, etc).
Yeah, everything is electronic (at least it should be at most places).
I advise to set it up so that your scores will be sent immediately once they’re available - this can be done online via the “Score Recipient” thing on College Board. I think the first 4 scores sent are free (unless something has changed).
It depends on the school. You should be able to find it out on their website. Also, you may need to request score report directly without seeing the score first even if they accept that.
Also some schools allow scores to come after the deadline as long as all of your other materials are in so you should check on that as well
Ok so basically, I should just send everything else in before the deadline and then I can send in my SAT scores online right when I get them and even if they dont get there in time I should still be good? Also, is it true that I won’t know the score when I send it in? That doesnt sound right because dont I have to see the report in order to send it to NYU?
You have to check each school for their score deadline policy. Some schools give you a grace period of 2 weeks or so for supporting documents, others don’t. If the school says they accept October test score which may come out near or after Nov 1 application deadline, you don’t have a chance to see the score first or it will be late.
@pompeyfan9797 Yes, yes, and yes.
College Board will send the score immediately when it’s available (w/out you seeing the score). This is just to ensure that it gets there quickly. No, you don’t need to see the score for it to be sent, you would just indicate that NYU is a score recipient for this future test (when you sign up for the October SAT, you should be able to indicate NYU as a recipient of your scores) and College Board will send it to them once the score is available.
If you really need to see the score, then you can wait and check the score, but you would risk it being delivered a bit late (this may or may not happen)
