Sending SAT scores to schools that I may not apply to?

I’ve just taken the SAT and I prefer to send my scores to some schools within the 9-day period. However, if I get a bad score and decide not to apply to one or two of these schools, will they just ignore the score they have received or do I have to do something to withdraw it? (I do not intend to retake the SAT)

Thanks.

If a school doesn’t get an application from you, they’ll ignore the SAT scores.

If you’re asking if they’ll treat a bad score as SAT optional, then the answer is no.

Agreed.

For the best use of free test score reports, put down a safety school or school that want all scores anyway. If the score turns out to be good, you are all set. If it is not as good as you thought, you do not loose anything.

@bjkmom Thank you!

@billcsho Thanks for the advice!

“ignore” is probably not the most accurate way to describe it. Some students do submit scores 2 years, or even 3 years, before their college application. The college will file your test score but they will not do anything until your application is completed.

@billcsho Thanks. I was just worried it might be an inconvenience for them to receive SAT scores with no application attached.
