A couple quick questions because my guidance counselor wasn't too helpful with them. When should I send my ACT Results and when should I request my transcripts to schools. Before or after the application. Also she recommended I apply about 2 weeks earlier than the deadline but I stupidly gave my teachers the deadline date for letters of recommendations the day my first application needs to go out, Oct 15. Has there been any trouble applying the day off? Lastly, I will be taking the SAT Subject Tests and I'm not sure how well I will do on them.If I do poorly do I have to send them to colleges that see all scores?
Thanks for everyones help.

The school will open a file when you submit your transcript, score, or application. Particularly, many students send scores when they took the test even more than a year before their application. For CA, electronic recommendations are linked to your application, so it would not be a problem if the teacher upload the letter before you submit any application. For schools that are not on the CommonApp, they may give you a PIN or ID number to put on recommendation when you submit the application, then you need to have the application going in first. In any case, you should follow up your application closely to see if everything were sent properly. It is not uncommon that you need to resubmit one thing or another. It would probably be better if you have everything submitted within a short period of time but at least a week or two before the application deadline.

So would it be okay to send transcripts and scores before the application goes through?

We sent all scores before submitting applications except 1 that was sent the day after. This is critical for those schools that want to receive them by deadline. It may take more than a week for delivery. That’s why they have the rush service for additional charge. It is actually recommended to send score 4 weeks before the deadline so you have time to make sure they arrived on time or you need to resubmit. For that reason, you should definitely send it early. The same reason for transcripts. For CommonApp or online applications, the deadline is for the time you click the submit button. In that case, it is obvious many will submit the transcript and scores before submitting the application if they wait till near the deadline.

Send the scores and transcripts as early as possible. Some students take SAT Subject Tests at the end of their Sophmore year and use their free reports to send them at that point.

Your application will not be negatively impacted if a LOR is a few days late. Give your teachers as much time as possible and try to have a back up plan if you fear they might be late. Communicate with both the teachers and adcoms to ensure deadlines are met.

If a college requires the submittal of all test scores, the you must submit the scores of all tests taken even if you don’t like the score. It is their policy and you must adhere to it. You might sneak past them by not letting them know you took Subject Tests, but it is not worth the risk.
