I'm applying early action to some schools and I'm not sure when I"m supposed to have my ACT scores sent. Can someone tell me?

There is not really law or rule, just make sure the college gets all the materials before November 1st or whatever the deadline is.

Always look at the dates given by the schools. They usually specify what is needed when.

It’s ok to send in ur scores before u send ur applications. That’s why CB has the whole 4 free deliveries hehe.
Techinically you can send ur scores anytime u want, and send you applications before the deadline.
there’s really no specfic rules on this…

In the rush just before deadlines, technical glitches abound. Early is good. Once you know your final list, just send the test scores, put in the request for transcripts to be send, and finalize the logistics on recommendations.

Common Application, individual school supplements, and applications will be available August 1, if not before. D’s prep school and the Columbia admin director were nearly screaming “write all your essays in summer.” Does your school have someone who edits/proofreads applications - if not you need to line up someone (or some two, or some three).

All scores (AP, ACT, SAT, GPA) will be in hand by Mid July.
-Finalize your list in late July/early August.
-Write the essays in August; let each marinate for at least a week and then edit again.
-After the essays are proofread by third party, paste essays into draft applications and let them sit for a month.
-Go back an reread them in late September; do they fully describe the person you are? Do they convey your passions? Do they make you sound like someone that the adcom would want to go on a beach vacation with? Tweek.
-Send early.

The Columbia Adcom director stressed that there was a strong correlation between messy, poorly executed applications and the lateness of the application. Don’t be part of that last-minute group. Be early, but not too early (RD in September just looks weird). Send the applications in a time frame that shows you manage your time well, but also have a life. Once the applications are in - go to work on having a wonderful, enriching (and high performing) GPA. Keep sending supplements - every time something wonderful happens: an award, a writing sample, a quarterly report card, topped with a cover letter showing passion and flair and an overwhelming desire to go to their school.

If other colleges of interest crop up during the fall, just send in the application, using essays developed during the summer, adjusted for that school. You’ll find that with a good portfolio of essays in hand, kicking out another application is not so tough. Try to send them in batches, keeping track of the dates. Also request transcripts, recommendations etc in batches to simplify logistics.

Thanks for such a helpful post! I just have a question - when you say “keep sending supplements,” what do you mean? Are you allowed to just send in extra stuff? Or is there a specific place (on apps) to do that?
