Sending U Chicago scholarship to Georgetown?

I received a 10,000 a year scholarship from U Chicago. Thing is, I'd much rather go to Georgetown or Brown (my top choices). They've accepted me but with no aid, and my parents can't pay what it says they can. Do you think if I send in my scholarship letter from U Chicago, there's any chance they'd match it? Thanks.

I would call the financial aid offices at Georgetown & Brown, and explain the situation to them. Maybe they will offer you some additional grants or scholarships.

Sure. Schools have largely lowballed students this year. You are perfectly within your rights to drive a hard bargain with them.

My interviewer and I talked about this, and he said Georgetown was very responsive to such ordeals (matching scholarship offers), especially because they lose a lot of potential students to schools that actually offer merit aid.

I especially like Roger's posts #9 and #10. I think the key is to go in being nice about it. Tell them you really want to go to their school, but finances are a major consideration and may bar you from attending. Show what you're getting from Chicago, and ask if it's possible to get a similar package. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!
