Thanks to all the wonderful parents here on CC. I couldn't have done it without you. Here's the Financial Aid follow through:

$3,900 - Pell Grant
$24,090 - Georgetown University Scholarship
$2,625 - Stafford Loan Subsidized
$3,000 - Federal Work Study
Total Financial Aid: $33,615

Total Family Contribution: $12,115

Now I need to figure out how to pay for the $12,000. Maybe take out $48,000 worth of loans?

Congratulations - I have read many of your posts and know how important this was to you. I wish you much luck and I know you will figure out how to get there and cover that $12,000

Woohoo! Congratulations! Is Georgetown's offer comparable to what you've received at other schools? You got into some really great ones, and if their financial package is better, you should give them serious consideration. But if your heart is set on GT, you may be able to pull some additional funds by working in the summer, so your costs would be lower. Once again, congratulations and good luck in making the finances work out.

It's comparable to what Notre Dame offered me, * slightly (only $1,000) less * to what Case Western offered me, and I'm waiting on Williams and Vandy..

But my heart is set on GU... I'm in the running for two $5,000 scholarships and will be applying for one more .. Hopefully I can clinch one of the three (two of them are local, one of them is a national award)

Andrew, Congratualtions. You have shown so much grace and maturity through out this whole process. All the best with the scholarships. I believe that everything will work out

Thanks a lot. The other schools that I have applied to are very high reaches. And even then, I love Georgetown and the SFS program and I don't think I'd turn it down for anywhere else.

That said, if any of the parents have advice as to handling the financial aid situation. Is there any way to appeal the financial aid?

You can always compare financial aid offers once they come in. Go to the finaid office at Georgetown with the other offers and ask them if they can or will match it.

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to you for your acceptance to Georgetown SFS!!!!!!! My brother is a Georgetown SFS graduate. He was a top recruit for the USIA and is now a diplomat with the foreign service who has served at posts in Beijing (twice) and Moscow (once). He had many doors open for him as a result of attending Georgetown, and if your aspirations include serving in the foreign service, then you will most certainly be in the right place! I am so happy for your excellent result! Congrats again! ~berurah

Congratuations, I've followed your saga and am thrilled for you! One of my very good friends is a Georgetown grad, and has had a wonderful career in the Foreign Service. He speaks so fondly of the school. I know you can make the $$ work.
