Hi I was wondering if this is a strong and good schedule if I’m looking to be a science (chemistry) major?
AP bc Calc
AP chem
AP Psych
Physics H
English H
Should I replace psych with stats? And would it be bad to take AP government instead of psych? I took APUSH and AP Lang as a junior and AP world as a soph… Would colleges care if I had a history on my schedule rather than psych? Or should I try to get into stats? Thanks!!
Yes, that is a strong and good schedule for a chem major.
Why do you want to replace Psych with Stats?
AP Gov and AP Psych are both regarded as “easy” APs
No, I don’t think colleges would care if you had either AP Psych or AP Gov
Your schedule is very strong. Does your school offer AP Lit? If so, I’d recommend taking it (as you took Lang as a Junior); Since you are taking a math (BC Calc), I don’t think taking AP Stats would be that important (it’s still a good class, but obviously BC is better). I would definitely recommend replacing Psych with Gov - it is generally regarded as a more “real” AP, and since you took APUSH, you should be able to handle it…
Ap gov is a one-semester class. it’s considered harder than AP Psych. History is one of the hard APs but your schedule is strong as it is. Remember that senior, during the Fall, preparing apps is equivalent to one class in terms of work, so, don’t overload.
I’m concerned you don’t have a foreign language though - do you have a high SAT Subject score, an AP score, or level 4 already completed? If not, that’d be more valuable than AP Psych or Gov.
At my school ap gov is a full year class, and no I am stopping Spanish after 3 because that’s the most that colleges are asking for
TBH, colleges won’t care at all. You’re taking a rigorous schedule, but colleges won’t go ahead and penalize you for taking one class over another. It won’t be the reason for an acceptance or denial, especially if you can explain why your choices were justified/reflected who you are in your essays and other material
What colleges are you hoping to be competitive for?
@MYOS1634 Umass, penn state, uconn, Maryland, Wisconsin, other schools similar to those
Okay, that’s fine for these schools.
However, have you run the net price calculator on each of these schools and brough the results to your parents? Because you must be out of state for at least 4 of them and thus won’t get any financial aid…
Yes I’m in state for umass… I also have family in Maryland and have talked to my parents about all of these options
Okay, so Penn State, UConn, UMaryland, and Wisconsin will be OOS - run the NPCs and show the results to your parents. Get a clear commitment/number from them. “We’ll see in the Spring” doesn’t work.
Also, beware, UMass has a low tuition/high fees model, whereby the fees are higher than the tuition, basically!!!
