Senior Schedule: overload or not?

After seeing a bunch of horror stories on CC about seniors getting C's and D's, I'm thinking twice about my senior schedule. (I'm a junior and can still change my schedule now)

My Junior yr schedule:

physics honors
precalc honors
english iii honors
french iv honors
ap bio
ap psych
ap us history
chamber orchestra
gym/health
^junior yr i had no lunch/free pd. i am getting basically low A's in all classes (like, 90 to 93)

My Senior yr schedule:

ap physics c
ap calc bc
ap french v lit
ap english lit
ap stat
american issues(required)
gym/health
^senior yr i'll have a lunch and first period off

Still, I'm nervous about AP Calc BC and AP Physics..these are the two hardest classes at my school.
Considering my jr yr, will I be able to handle senior year w/ 5 AP's?
Please give an honest evaluation

How did you manage to go from Pre-calculus as a junior to AP Calculus BC as a senior? You made a huge jump, I don't see how that's possible at all/

In our school, junior take pre-calc. then senior year, they choose between ap calc AB and ap calc BC..stupid, ik

That's strange. I'd say take one or two less AP's. I don't know you or the school you go to or anything, but in general I would just advice you to go easier senior year. I personally don't think I could take all those classes and keep my grades up during senior year, not even if it were junior year. Just looking at the huge jump you are making into AP Calc BC I'd say your schedule is way too much.

My S took AP Physics AB in JR year & then AP Physics C in SR year, which worked fine for him. At his school, they also go from precalc to AP calc either AB or BC. He & his teachers decided he should chose AB & he did fine.

He took 5 APs in his SR year (his choice) + marching band. It worked for him, but only you & your teachers know whether it will work for you. I'd suggest that maybe you take AP Calc AB if you're nervous about it already. You might ask your current physics teacher which physics course s/he'd recommend for you. Are you interested in engineering? Physics? If not, I'm not sure why you're taking it.

Remember, you want to have some fun SR year, be able to devote some energy to your college & scholarship apps, and enjoy your courses. Colleges like to see you do well in SR year as well, so you want to be sure that you don't overload so much that your grades will suffer.

I went from Pre-calculus to AP BC Calculus. It's not that uncommon. Our school prohibited people from taking AB and then going to BC.

Himom is right- The first semester of your Sr year you have the responsibility of doing college applications, and that process can be VERY time consuming- almost a part time job in itself. I suggest if at all possible you get your college essays written by early Sept. First semester grades are CRITICAL , so taking AP Calc AB might be a wiser choice so you aren't killing yourself worrying over grades.

to the OP, suggest you look at this thread as well

I decided on Calc BC and Physics C b/c my teachers recommended them for me. I'm already sure abut the calc, but I still can't choose between Ap Chem and Ap Physics...chem is supposed to be easier in my school, but there's a five hour lab involved and idk if I like chem enough to go through that. Are senior grades really important?

Beware of senioritis.

No offense, but if you're only managing 90-93s this year, your grades might take a hit next year with 2 more (and more difficult) AP classes and college applications added in.

I'm actually taking a very similar schedule this year. AP English Lit, AP Econ (Macro and Micro), AP Physics B, AP French Lit, AP Calc BC, Gym/Health, Band, and Chorus, with an hour lunch 3 days a week (20 minutes the other days b/c of lab) and a gym drop period once a week. It's not too bad. Quite a bit of work, but not a ridiculous amount, and I'm getting A's. I also went right from Precalc to BC- that's what everyone at my school who takes BC does- and it's not really a jump at all, since we cover AB first, just much faster than the AB kids. As for Chem and Phys- if you like Physics, take it. Physics is also supposed to be a harder class at my school, but I'm doing better in it than I did in Chem last year simply because I think it's more interesting. Senior grades are important, but slightly lower grades in hard classes won't hurt you much. I'd also advise you to see if you can find a senior at your school who is taking a few of those same classes-I have no idea how the workload/difficulty at your school compares to that at mine.

In my school it's normal to go from precalc to Calc BC...
But if you're worried, why not drop Stat? No. 1 it's better not to risk a horrific workload and lower grades, and No 2. (as a previous poster said) "beware senioritis." Think about second semester...will you REALLY have it in you to manage all that work? I'm going through that right now with "only" four APs and it's tough! Good luck with everything!!!

it's true, i thought senioritis was a myth, but even the most dedicated students start slacking off in senior year, it's amazing...in a bad way

Yea, instead of AP Stats, maybe take something you WANT to take? It's your last chance to take something you've always wanted to try in HS or get involved in more ECs. Not everyone is cut out to have tons of APs in their SR year--talk to SRs at your school who are taking the schedule you're proposing & ask them how it's going & what they'd do if they could do it over. The teachers make a difference, but they'll have better insight about the workload with college & scholarships apps.
