Hi,
Next year I plan on applying to competitive universities such as Wharton(Penn), Stanford, Wash U, Duke, Cornell, Harvard, and Vanderbilt.
Would this schedule through up a red flag for admissions officers?
Calc AB
Speech communications(English)
AP human geo
AP macro
Marine sciences
College level marketing
Health (required)
Would taking AB instead of BC put me at a significant disadvantage. Also, is the science necessary(I’ve taken Chem, physics, and AP BIO)
Thanks!
Colleges love to see rigor and consistency. With any AP math your off to a good start preferably Cal. However, Colleges like to see conscientious students. You could go straight to BC but that would put you at a disadvantage to those who take both AB and BC because they have more of a history and experience with Cal. Your science is fine, overall your whole course load is good.
Calc AB = not a problem vs. BC
Marine science = not a problem since you have all three of physics, chem, and bio
Speech comm isn’t considered the same as English, in that it’s not literature or text based and does not require extensive writing. It’s a good complement to a senior seminar or AP English Language or Honors English Lit.
College-level marketing : if you’re allowed to take a college class, take it in a “core” subject (what about discrete math? foreign language? History?)
So, your actual schedule should look like this:
Calc AB
English (literature, AP Lang, seminar)
Speech communications
AP human geo or AP macro
Marine science (H?)
College level history/foreign language OR discrete math
Health (required)
