Yes, this is another "Am I crazy for transferring?" topic...please bear with me. :)

So, because I was so concerned with keeping my GPA above 3.8 to keep all my academics-based scholarships (without which my family could not afford tuition), I chose not to even try majoring in computer science since I though its demanding coursework would sink my GPA. I chose another major (well, two others technically), which in my freshman naivete I thought I should go with since it was the "right combination" of doable coursework and a "well-paying job" after graduation.

Now, after a lot of soul-searching over several months, I am planning on transferring to a public college in my home state to study computer science.

Pros:
-Doing something I actually like (computers and programming to some extent have been my hobbies since elementary school) and want to continue doing after school, regardless of the challenge and uncertainty
-In-state tuition and possibility of scholarships (from parents' employers and, only offered to in-state students and including transfers, etc)
-I get to try ROTC; I wanted to do ROTC and join the military since high school and am disappointed with myself for not going for it earlier
-Closer to friends, family; friends go to state u; better location in general
-School spirit (my current university is famous for how little it has, and I have always hated how I am not proud of my sad--yet very expensive--school)

Cons:
-It will likely take me around another 3 years to graduate
-Potential for financial aid troubles

(BTW, my decision has nothing to do with the current state of the economy or anything like that.)

Does my reasoning look relatively sound? I just hope it's not too late; I'm disappointed with my younger self for always taking the easy way out, and I want to make up for my poor decisions earlier. I don't want to have regrets.

Also, what potential challenges (especially those related to financial aid) might await me as a senior transfer and a 5th, 6th, 7th year undergrad? (I can still get the Pell Grant until my 18th semester, right?) Would especially appreciate input from those who have been there, done that with transferring/changing majors late in the game.

Sorry for the post length. :) Thank you very much for any help.
