Senior Year Classes

I am currently a Junior in High School. My high school is very competitive. The Senior Year Course selection proccess has just begun and I was wondering if the group could help me in my selections. I was wondering if I should take as many AP's as possible and get high 80's and low 90's or take all honors and get high 90's. Many of the honors classes allow students to take the AP tests and my High School Honors program is said to be at an equal level with other local public school's AP courses. Also, Can some current Plebes( ar anyone else who knows) post their current list of courses. Is it neccessary to take classes like philosophy at WP? Thanks for all of the help!

Contact WP for the MALO and he/she can direct you on how to be competitive. If you have ROTC at your hs they should also be able to assist you

Whatever courses you take in HS, the classes at WP will be more demanding, and you will have the other stresses of plebe year. When you say that you expect high 80's-low 90's if you take AP classes, what would it take for you to do better than that? I would personally recommend that you take the most rigorous courses (not to exceed 3-4 AP's in one year) available, and do the absolute best you can do, whatever that is. Best of luck.

Friartown09: WP wants to see that you are not afraid to challenge yourself. They will compare the rigor of your course load to the classes available at your school. Take the most demanding course load that you are comfortable with.

The question always come up: "is it better to get a B in an AP class or an A in an regular class?" . The standard answer is that you should get an A in an AP class :), but if that is not possible in general USMA would rather see slightly lower grades in AP classes than really high grades in regular classes. For most schools the weighting system means that there is no disadvantage to the student when class rank is calculated. Is this true at your school?

Bulletandpima is correct, your MALO or admissions should be able to give you more specific advise related to your course choices.

Calc 1
Information Technology
Chemistry
Military Science
Boxing (half semester)
Fundamentals of Personal Fitness (half semester)
Regional Studies in world history (Middle East)
Lit

That's what I'm taking this semester. Yes, philosophy is a required core course. Most take it yuk year. My schedule is basically the cookie cutter course load for second semester plebe year. If you validate some classes, you can opt to start taking foreign language or American Politics (both yuk core courses) during plebe year.
