I was wrong about my D's schedule. I just found out that the math electives are actually AP courses. And megamike23, I think you're right- you need calc before differential equations.

My question now is should my daughter take AP Linear Algebra, or AP Number Theory. Is one considered easier (she already has 4 APs incl AP calc BC) in light of her courseload? Would Wharton look favorable with one of these math classes over the other?

neither are actual ap classes (i think). The difficulty of the material is subjective to the teacher but I woudl say Linear Algebra is usually harder. I don't know if Wharton woudl prefer one or the other, and I doubt it, so perhaps your daughter should take whichever one she feels is best for her.

They may not be an actual AP courses, but according to her GC her school will give them AP weight which in her school is 1.15. Since her class rank is so high, either #1 or #2, she has to take AP classes to maintain it. Non AP classes are out. Everyone close to her rank is taking AP sciences and because of the labs and weight, they can really move up. This is why she is considering taking 5 APs to maintain her GPA. She just doesn't want to kill herself doing it.

Anyone else have opinions on which math class to take- I'm also told that they're adding a 4th high level math elective next year(with AP weight). GC was not sure what math area it was covering. Will post when info is available

yeah, ap only offers up to bc calc because most colleges want to teach math beyond that their own way. Usually linear algebra (along with multivarible calculus) comes after calc bc. I am currently in multivar/linear. My only experience with number theory is that a kid in my alg-trig class would read a book on it during class.
