Senior year of college FAFSA

Hi all!
This may be a dumb question but I am a senior in college. I plan to graduate May of 2020, however, I may have to take a summer course to complete my degree. If I do have to take this course over next summer, I plan to pay for it out of pocket from the refunded scholarship I have received this semester. Do I need to fill out the FAFSA for 2020-2021, or am I thinking to hard about this? Thank you very much!

If you don’t want financial aid for summer 2020, then you don’t need to fill out the form assuming summer 2020 is part of the 2020-2021 year.

Even if you do…one course is way less than 1/2 time enrollment. Any aid you receive would be very prorated.

ETA…our kid also had one course to complete in the summer. She paid out of pocket for that one course.

@twoinanddone our kids summer was attached to the following academic year. YMMV on this.

You never HAVE to file the FAFSA. Also, most schools consider the summer to be part of the prior year for FAFSA.
