Although my schedule is nearly filled out, I am unsure of two classes. I am a rising senior, and I am interested in majoring in chemistry and journalism. I plan to apply to selective colleges.

1) AP Statistics (taking BC Calc this year but multivariable is not offered)
2) AP Lit or Hon English
3) Art credit
4) AP Physics
5) Marine Biology/Organic Chemistry (each are semester long)
6) Newspaper (this requires a lot of work)
7) Research Class (required)/Study Hall
8) Elective

I am unsure whether to take AP Lit or Honors English. I know the Honors English teacher well and I have had him before, but does it look bad to step down from the AP track since I am taking AP Lang this year?

Also, for my elective these are the options I was thinking of: Forensic Science, AP Human Geography, AP Pyschology (all full year courses). I want an easy, fun class and my first choice is Forensics. But since I only have 2 APs, do I need another one? And if I do, which looks better - Human Geo or Pysch?
(APs I have taken/am taking: Government, Computer Science, Language & Composition, World History, Calculus BC, Chemistry)

you’ve already taken plenty of AP’s, you do not need to add another next year to buff up your app. Go with forensics, absolutely. And take AP Lit.

I’ll disagree with the above advice on AP Lit - If you scored well and got an A in AP Lang, AP Lit is completely optional, just take some other English class. Our school offers an advanced writing class that includes writing college essays that is very popular among seniors applying to selective colleges.

Take AP Lit if it interests you, but many students find the reading schedule relentless and not particularly interesting to them. Be a very strong reader if you take it, at least at our school.

AP Lit at my school is actually very easy because it was “Watered-Down” due to complex circumstances. It may be harder at yours. I notice you have no foreign language?

OK, I’ll amend my advice on AP Lit. If you have interesting English electives like creative writing, 20th Cent Drama, taking those is fine. But if you are substituting AP Lit for a generic English 12 course, AND taking AP Psych or APHG, then I still think it looks watered down.
