I tried asking about my situation specifically (switching from Canadian school to American school senior year) [thread]1432250[/thread] BUT since nobody seems to have experience with that, I have decided to broaden my question.

Has anybody switched schools senior year? How was the switch?

From my personal experience, foreigners usually do very well at American public schools. In my class, a Nigerian girl is the salutatorian, and two Indians and a Brazilian are on track in graduating with high honors and within the top 10% of the class, and they are all taking 7~10 AP courses total. We had two other Nigerians and a Chinese girl, but they were accepted and are enrolled at NCSSM right now. AP-wise, last year only eleven people at my school achieved one or more 5s on the exams, and four of them were part of the above-mentioned group. We also had a German student who was enrolled in all honors and always made As and Bs before he returned to his homeland. So unless you enroll at a magnet or prep school, you’ll easily breeze through your courses with minimum effort. Albeit your class rank may suffer from the transition, since several American public schools rank by weighted GPA, and wGPA here tends to get very inflated.

Thanks, that’s a little bit comforting, although the school I am going to is supposed to be very academically oriented - one of the top schools in the state.
