Cornell Class of 2015, feel free to discuss your senioritis (or lack thereof) on this thread.

I'll start: I got mostly A's and a couple A-'s (school does not have A+'s) first semester of my Senior year (and for all of high school for that matter) -- I am in 5 AP classes, 1 honors class, and 1 normal (required) class. I just got into CAS RD, and for the third quarter, I'm getting a few B's (a B-, though my year grade will still be B/B+, and it is in calc bc; also a B in honors english.. the rest of my grades are A or A-'s) -- I must say I have stopped caring as much about grades as I used to (before I got into Cornell). I'll probably finish the year with 1-2 Bs, and the rest A/A-'s. (the other 3 years (every time), I finished with 5-6 As, and 1 A-)

Oh… boy, I’ve been waiting for a thread like this.
As soon as I received my acceptance letter for ED, I got 3 C+s for my midterms. Currently, for my 4th marking period, I have one D+, 3 A-s, 1 B+. Lol, I have stopped caring almost completely.

ah. post-acceptance senioritis is the worst. i still have ib exams to study for. do you know if cornell have some sort of condition? (like UCs want no C or below 3.5)

Being a private university, Cornell has no official cut-offs / rescinsion policies. However, I would imagine getting straight Cs or worse for the year would put you at risk (although I have never heard of anyone getting rescinded before; Cornell is known for being rly chill about second semester senior year.)

@Yunsang: That is understandable lol. If I had applied and gotten in ED, my grades would definitely be lower as well!

Hmm, senioritis has also hit me after getting back college decisions. Surprisingly, in some classes, I’m doing better than I did when I actually cared (AP Lit, Multivar Calc). But, whatever. At this point, I’m just making sure to learn everything that I feel like would be helpful in the future…grades don’t really matter at this point for me. Grades went from Straight As (first semester senior year) to straight As and a B (cus my classes or so easy that it’s hard to do badly in them lol), but the end of the year grades are still As, so all is well :)

but, in general, ive been focusing on owning up math + sci competitions this year.

I so started this already.
Guess that thread is way far back.

I am kind of like WongTongTong - well some parts.
My grades are all still As, cause that is just how I am wired, but I have definitely stopped caring. Got the lowest quarter grade two days ago (a 94). It was still funny to see that grade since I am not really worrying about school as much as I used to.
Also, I am doing better in some classes that I usually would not be. My timed-essay writing is not that great but it has been getting better in my AP English class.

You guys going to study for any APs?
I am taking four this year - Biology, Microeconomics, Statistics, and English
I am definitely not going to study for English and Microeconomics seems like a joke.
Biology is a lot of memorization so I will probably not do anything for it.
Statistics is one that I will try to get a 5 in because the teacher and I are tight. :D

Only ones I’m gonna study for are Physics C: E+M (totally screwed for this) and Mech (this should be a lot easier)…rest should be pretty easy.

@Supervisor- you should think about taking the placement exam for Multivar…I went to sit on a class on my visit, and the class is a joke…the lady teaches it like if she was teaching 5th graders.

I applaud you for taking E&M… we went over that for a month in Physics B, and I got a 75% on the test (my lowest grade ever, besides the 65 in APUSH two years ago…) ****ing magnets, how do they work?!

I still do not understand what emf or flux is.

Also, WongTongTong is going to Cornell?! I might one day meet a CC celebrity?! -le swoon-

Is Multivariable calculus after Linear Algebra or Calc 3?
I am guessing you know which math courses I took (if not, I am currently taking Linear Algebra after taking Calc 3 in the last semester).

I’ll prob get mostly As and a C/D in ap stasticts. I honestly have just lost the motivation to care though haha. im taking the ap bio, ap english and the ap gov exams. i agree with nerdlings, you go WongTongTong haha

I’m glad to hear they don’t rescind if you get a C.

I’ve had straight A’s for sophomore and junior year. I’m currently taking 5 APs out of my 5 classes this year. After my acceptance, I have 2 possible B’s, and 1 C. Hopefully I can raise one B and that C up…

Although I’m a bit relieved, hearing that they don’t really rescind, I (like many CC members) am no fan of any C. Ahhhhhhhhh!

Calc 3 is Multivariable. Well, assuming you guys went over vector calculus as well (Green’s, Stoke’s, Curl, Div, etc.).

Well if you take Calc 3 for Engineers at Cornell, you’ll quickly come to understand what flux is, since the lady who teaches it is in love with it.

Haha, you’re too much :), and enough with the swooning >.<- I’ve had enough of that from Dante.

Not too sure if I would consider myself a ‘CC celebrity’, but I guess that works. Also, Nerdlings and imi1928, are you guys going to be at engineering or CAS next year? And, given the size of Cornell, chances are we won’t meet, haha.

Actually WTT, if any of us did want to find you, it would be pretty easy since there are usually only about 5-7ish new RCPRS in Engineering each year :]…prepare to be stalked.

Ah, then I guess I will be taking the thing ahead of Multivariable Calculus…
Which is?
This should help me on my path to becoming a CS/math major!

I was accepted halfway through December. My grades have all been downhill from there. (: I don’t really want to study for the APs at all, but I need the credits. :P

Oh, as for AP credits… where can I find info regarding how they will transfer? I know that some high scores on certain tests can get you out of intro classes, but is there any way to take the intro class anyways and get the credit to count for an elective or something?

By the way, for those who are in AP Bio and you’re in either CAS/CALS and planning to major in Biology, you might wanna reconsider studying for the AP test. They don’t give credit. But if you weren’t in those two respective colleges and were planning to major in biological sciences, they give you credit.

For Calc BC, either a 4/5 will get you credit. Same for Psychology. As for English Literature/Language Composition, it depends on the respective colleges. Finally, I know most of the other sciences (Chemistry, Physics C, etc.), you need a 5 to get any sort of credit.
