Seniors that are depressed...

I agree with what JeNeSaisQuoi said. It is foolish to say none of the seniors here are suffering from "that" type of depression.

"In any given 6-month period, about 5 percent of 9- to 17-year-olds are estimated to be suffering from major depression."

The whole article - <a href="http://www.safeyouth.org/scripts/teens/depression.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.safeyouth.org/scripts/teens/depression.asp</a></p>

That article stated that 5% of 9 to 17 year olds suffered from "major depression." Now it depends what is considered major depression. I'm assuming manic depression. That estimate does not take into account other similar disorders (moderate depression - still potent, OCD which can trigger depression, anxiety disorders, etc). Some people on here probably do suffer from depression. And it shouldn't be taken lightly.

And if people don't like hearing people complain about being depressed on these forums, then why read them? Seriously, I think forums are a great place to let it out, rather then bring down the people around you. People can choose to listen or not listen to someone on a forum without hurting there feelings. Let people vent in a healthy way!

Having two psychologist parents, having gone through depression and having friends who have delt with the same, I think that depression is a SERIOUS issue. You really can't say, "Oh, you're depressed, poor baby. Now get a life and get over it!" Honestly, that's disgusting. Yes, taking medication should be a last resort. But people, depression is an ILLNESS, and just like any other physical ailment, you go to the doctor to get treated for it. Yes, our society is over-medicated- not just with things like Paxil, but Riddilen (that's how it sounds to me. I know it's spelled wrong.) and a million other drugs. But that doesn't mean people who are taking anti-depressants are wimps. I think that waiting until you're suicidal to get on meds is a extremely ridiculous. I mean, it's not like people CHOOSE to be depressed. Genetic and environmental factors (things people really CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT) are the main causes of depression. Of course people need to try to deal with the underlying issues, if any exist. But if you can have a more normal life by taking an anti-depressant, I don't think that's wimping out.

Depressed? No. Very Frustrated? Yes. Is there anyone else on this board who still wants to learn 2nd semester? I actually enjoy learning stuff, believe it or not, and find that I spend more time this semester than last on homework/studying/learning stuff on my own. In some of my classses it seems that no one really cares anymore and I find that really frustrating. If I have to sit in class for the full period we could at least discuss something interesting so that it's not a complete waste of my time. Am I alone in this feeling? ANYONE ELSE out there who finds this really frustrating for a similar reason?

Nope.
Sorry I'm not a nerd.
