sense of humor

In gathering some info for another post, I noticed in the What Are We Looking For? section Carleton says "The committee asks questions such as: How active have you been in your school and community? Have you been involved in sports, student government, your church, synagogue or other religious community? Are you someone who will lead? Do you have a sense of humor?"

I like that last one! I wonder how many schools specifically look for it.)

I can’t imagine any Carl without a sense of humor, or at least a respect for the absurd!

One of the best things about Carleton in my opinion is that the students don’t take themselves too seriously.

^^I agree. I find myself constantly laughing even when I’m just hanging out with friends or doing homework with people.

I have anecdotal evidence that student comedy is popular at Carleton. This past weekend I saw a performance by Carleton’s improv and sketch comedy groups. The show was a huge hit. My son estimated that a tenth of the entire student body saw that one performance. Many students were turned away because the Little Nourse Theatre couldn’t accommodate them. One nice touch was that President Poskanzer appeared in the opening sketch as himself. He received a lot of cheers, laughs and applause.

Carleton was the best possible place for my daughter. She’s smart, intense, driven, a bit of an oddball, and has a terrific wit. These past three years, her fellow Carls have helped her learn another important life lesson–how to laugh at herself. :)

Videos of the fall 2010 trimester’s Lenny Dee show are now posted on the most popular web video website. I can’t provide a direct link to them, so anyone interested will have to find them by searching for the name of Lenny Dee’s account, going to that account’s web page, and then looking for the most recent uploads.
