Odd question, I realize. :-)

Son and I recently met with a private college counselor (for free; boy was she generous with her time). Princeton's #1 on his list. Counselor told my son he should consider Stanford (it's not been on his list) because she thinks it would be a good fit for him and one reason was his sense of humor. For the record, both her kids went to Stanford and she worked for Stanford at one time.

I never thought about the fact that my son's sense of humor is an integral part of who he is and wondered if there are intense but lighthearted kids like him at Princeton.

I find the counselor’s observation a bit odd and probably more a reflection of her pro-Stanford bias than an informed observation of Princeton students. Of course Princeton students have good senses of humor and enjoy having a good time. My son, a rising junior, is greatly enjoying life at Princeton. His sense of humor hasn’t suffered a bit.

I don’t think she was saying choose Stanford over Princeton because Princeton lacks students with humor. I think she was simply saying add Stanford to your list of schools to consider applying to because of your personality, which includes a sharp sense of humor. In no way was she denigrading Princeton and I’m not, either. It’s #1 on my son’s list which is why he’ll apply SCEA. I just realized that it wasn’t something I’d thought about. His two friends on campus are both exceptionally nice and generous young people but we didn’t really have a chance to see kids “hang out” as it were, because we were only there for one 24 hour period.

this is such a stupid question that it doesn’t even warrant an answer.

Hmm, by your response I’m not sure it was such a stupid question… :-)

I’m sure that, in a population of ~5000 undergraduates, you’ll find some students who will be intense but lighthearted.

Good point, Scrivener. :-)

No. They sit in their residential colleges eating tart. LOL any answer to this is gonna be inconclusive, but overall I met some really funny people at preview.

^^^^I’m not going to Princeton. Maybe you should extend this question to students in my college as well.
