SEO Internships

I wonder how many students they are going to accept for Corporate Finance this year. Any guesses guys? Half of what they accepted last year? By the way, does anyone know how many made it last year in this division?

I applied to corporate finance also and still haven't heard back from them.

me too :(
i have 3.9, ivy school, banking experience, and haven't heard back either
does anyone know what sort of criteria they judge by?

supposedly the strongest candidates hear back by the first two weeks of the deadline, which would make tomorrow decision day

it's surprising how so many with great GPAs, great school names, and great experiences haven't heard back yet.....

I spoke with some people from SEO and I heard that the stronger people hear back within 2 weeks of nov. 1 deadline, and weaker people hear later and are either accepted later or waitlisted

For those of you who will hear back tomorrow, congratulations in advance. For those who don't, don't despair! I've read about a person turned down by SEO who got offers from two BB's on his own. I am not sure if I read that at CC or wallstreetoasis.com, but I did read it somewhere. Remember, when there is a will, there is always a way.

thats strange i applied for corp finance and received a response in a week for an interview its tomorrow im really nervous

"that's amazing, 4.0 at ivy and corp fin no inteview......makes me suspicious of this program"

Don't really see how that makes any program suspicious. Are top universities also suspcisious because people wtih 4.0 GPAs and perfect SATs get rejected? No.

I'm a new member here, just had my phone interview at 11:15 this morning thought I did kinda bad but I passed and found out the same day (about an hour ago) that I'm invited for a in-person interview. I applying for IT and I'm a junior coming from a state school with a 3.8 gpa, I also held a IT internship last summer at a media firm also I'm employed at the computing services dept here at my school doing IT stuff. Has anyone here had there phone interview today or is going to in the near future?

What did they ask you for the phone interview?

HopefullyHaas, this is from the other thread:

"Tell me about yourself and each of your extracurriculars.
How'd you hear about SEO, and what influenced your decision to apply?
Why do you like the area that you've chosen?
How does the subfield you've chosen contribute to what you want to do in the future?
Why SEO?
What do you think is the main difference between applying to SEO for placement with one of their Corporate Sponsors and applying to the company itself?
What do you feel about working and traveling in the NYC region?"

It seems like everyone is getting those exact questions (I did as well).

has anybody had the in person interview yet what was the experience like

Hi guys, I was fortunate enough to come across thread just now and have been reading through all the posts. Congrats to those who made it past the first round!

I have my first round on first thing Tuesday morning and am SUPER nervous.

I'd appreciate help with the following questions (taken from previous posts):

What do you think is the main difference between applying to SEO for placement with one of their Corporate Sponsors and applying to the company itself?
What do you feel about working and traveling in the NYC region?

Any other suggestions/tips?? I'm seriously nervous. Also, what's a good source to learn more about how and WHY the dollar swings in relation to oil???!

To answer your question about oil and the dollar, I'm pretty sure the changes in the value of the dollar cause the oil prices to fluctuate and not the other way around. Since oil is denominated in dollars, if the dollar weakens, then oil prices would in turn increase. It's not really about relative prices but just the fact that the dollar is now weaker would mean that it costs more to buy the same amount of oil. Not sure if that's right, that's just my thought on it.. good luck with your interview!

sweet thanks. just got done with the phone interview five minutes ago, literally.

it wasn't too bad but i was surprised at the fact that they asked me about five questions instead of around three like everyone said. thing that caught me off guard the most: in 30 seconds tell us why seo should off you an internship. totally unexpected and threw me off guard but hey, tried my best.

does anyone have any suggestions for the in person (assuming i get it, crossed fingers!!)?

Finished mine this morning. I wasn't being articuate so the overall experience wasn't so good.

kryptickobra: did the interviewer give you advice for in-person interview at the end?

RejectingCrimson, they don't seem to be giving advice for the in-person interview this year...

At the end of the interview they just say that you'll find in out in 2-4 weeks, but most of the people getting the in-person interview have been notified around 24-72 hours later, so I've seen.

rejectingcrimson: no she didn't give me any advice. she told me to be aware to check my inbox and spam folder for any future correspondence from seo notifying me of any "updates"

poorpluto: do you think if i don't hear back by the end of the week, i most likely have not advanced?

to be honest, i'm trippin and just hope i hear back. the interviewer was very cold and we didn't really get a chance to establish a connection. the entire call was 13 minutes exactly and it ended on an awkward silence closed by her...so again, i'm not sure what to expect...

Every candidate's situation is different, please do not rely on these anecdotes when making decisions about your future.

We will have a robust program this summer. We have positions and we have admitted students. Because we have rolling admissions, we are continually reviewing applications and not everyone hears back at the same time.

You will hear back from us anytime between when you submitted your application and the decision notification date for your round (Round 1: January 23, Round 2: February 22, Round 3: March 22).

Interviews are by invitation only and we do not interview all applicants. You will either be invited to interview or you will receive a decision letter notifying you that you have not been selected.

By posting our interview questions on this and other sites, you are making it easier for your competition to perform well in the interview. We advise you to keep that information to yourself.

THIS IS AN OFFICIAL POST FROM THE SEO CAREER PROGRAM

To SEOCareerProgram,

Spamming a message on every major thread regarding SEO is not going to change the perceptions that have been created by the hundreds of posts by individuals who have first-hand experience in dealing with your organization. Don't be so naive.

Companies may very well be hiring for interns this summer, but to say this year's class will be "robust" seems a little skewed to me.

I think students will be better off applying to companies on their own via personal networks and company websites rather than having to go through SEO's lengthy third-party application process. Add in the fact that you don't even get to choose which company you intern with once accepted, and that you have running obligations to SEO that will eat a chunk of your time once in, you may be better served by applying to the source directly.

I don't have a standing grudge with SEO. As a matter of fact you should apply if you want to, so as to increase your chances of landing something. I'm just letting you know my experiences and what worked for me, and my experience tells me that one of SEO's biggest flaws is their seemingly arbitrary hiring process.

My decision said...they haven't reached a final decision yet...***.

I hate when people cant reach an affirmative decision.
