Has anyone done it, been accepted, denied...know someone who's applied?

Anyone out there applying for philanthropy this year?

I'm applying this year. I just heard about the program so am going to swing for the December deadline. Any advice, news, updates, etc would be appreciated!

Best

Hi Roxy,

I am applying for the TFA Staff Internship in philanthropy this year. I sent in my application on 11/22, and I got an e-mail telling me about my phone interview yesterday. What about you?

Have either of you guys been accepted yet? I applied and had my in-person interview back in January. Waitlisted February. How about you guys?

Interviewed: Mid-January
Waitlisted: February 22nd.

I'm not sure what the deal is with SEO. I know someone else who interviewed for philanthropy in January and was also waitlisted. Sprinkles, what did you apply for? The traditional staff internship?

Thanks for responding! I'm going crazy over here, because I haven't heard of anyone getting in for Philanthropy... Have you?

I applied traditional... you?

I applied for the TFA Internship. It is like my dream job, so I was not too happy when I was waitlisted! Oh, well, the letters say we should wait until March 22nd, and that's not far away. Do you have any other options lined out? Do you live in the city/ if not, how will you secure housing if you get accepted?

My other options are...slim, lol, and I have been wondering about housing a lot. It seems as though a lot of the kids in the other divisions have already been accepted and are lining up housing : / I'm starting to lose hope because we're getting so close to the 22nd--what do you think? do you think we'll get calls this week if we're in? i wish you the best of luck!

Haha, it seems to me like we are the only to respondents to this thread! I'm keeping my hopes up, because otherwise I won't have any options and will need to scramble to apply to things! I'm guessing we'll probably get notified (called) next week about the final decision. Did you interview in New York? 3 people? Three people interviewed me, but my friend said only 2 people interview her. Do you know why there's a difference?

Side questions: what is your major/class-year? do you plan on being in the philanthropy field post-graduation?

Best of luck and keep me posted about your decision status! I will let you know, as well.

lol--yeah we're practically having our own public conversation. I got interviewed in DC, but was surprised to only have one person... I thought it went very well though, so I was really shocked when I got waitlisted : ( I guess that's everyone though : / I've heard a lot of discrepancies in the number of interviewers, I don't get it...

I'm a third year, and I'm actually pre-medicine, so while I hope to eventually start my own foundation, I would primarily work in healthcare (which is something that i think might have hurt my chances : / but i had to be honest) I was really looking forward to working in philanthropy though and learning more about it. How about you?

I'm also a junior and I'm a sociology major with a focus on stratification in education, which is why I want Teach For America. I thought my interview went pretty well, except that I was too honest. When ranking my skills, I let them know that although I may appear to be good at communication, sometimes I'm just...not. They also gave me some math question to answer (in 5 seconds) and since I hadn't done math since the 11th grade, I got it wrong! I was off by 4, I think. I had a stellar recommendation from my adviser, I do volunteer work with at-risk youth, and I do a lot of research on the educational system. I thought that I had a pretty good chance, but oh well. I have no idea what I want to do after graduation, but I'm thinking maybe director of some educational program or Teach For America (which is why I wanted the internship so badly!). I'd love to start some time of CBO which would help low-income youth apply to colleges, but I know it's not entirely realistic. Option B is do research for the rest of my life, which I absolutely adore.

I cannot wait to hear!! Just a few weeks. Lucky for me, next week is my Spring Break, so I will probably forget about this until I get back to campus on Sunday. I hope what's coming is good news. I almost feel like I'm a high school senior again. Do you think they'd post a decision online before they'd call you?

That's awesome! I really hope you get TFA since you are so passionate about it! I'm not sure about the whole posting online before calling thing...because I saw that I was waitlisted before they even emailed me, but then again I'm kind of obsessed with checking the SEO App website, lol. I'll definitely let you and everyone else know the second I hear anything though : )

I applied for the seo philanthrophy internship with TFA too, and I was put on the waitlist. The letter said they were supposed to get back by March 22nd, but so far nothing! I'm really anxious and I just want to know my status, they are taking FOREVER....

update: I just got the call a few hours ago and I've officially been accepted!

Congrats! :D

here's to hoping that it works out for us too, sprinkles! :P

Yorubella---Congratulations again! I'm dying over here to find out about my own decision--Could you give me any insight? What time did they call? Did they say anything about how many people they've taken? Or did they apologize about calling so late? Anything would be great to hear...if you don't mind, lol. I'm just going insane not hearing anything. : / Happy for you though!

Thanks girls! They called me around 2:40pm central time. They definitely didn't apologize for calling so late. The deadline to accept is April 2nd, so you should hopefully hear back this week if you've been accepted! I get the feeling one person is doing most of the work and the philanthropy program may be a bit lower on their priority than the corporate internships, so maybe that's why its taking so long. I am really excited, SEO is such a great program. good luck!

I've been accepted for the traditional foundation internship... so very excited. Anyone else accepted, and if so, do you have a placement preference?

Hello all!! I was accepted to the philanthropy TFA staff position on 3/13. Looking forward to being in new york this summer and meeting everyone! Anyone heard back from seo, or know about housing? I’ll be staying in the new yorker–it’s less than a mile away from TFA headquarters.
