Separate prep courses for PSAT and SAT?

I'm a rising junior, and have been getting pressure all year from my parents to start prepping for the PSAT and SAT. I've taken the PSAT twice, and only gained one point from freshman year to sophomore year. I got a 175 this year. I don't really care that much, but a score of 195 to 200 would be nice because then I could qualify for National Achievement Recognition.

I found an online test prep class which is great for me because I am really busy and I don't have my license yet, so I can take it on my own time with 24/7 support. However, they charge $300 per test. I'm not sure if it would be of value to do any PSAT specific prep. If I just jump right in prepping for the SAT, shouldn't my PSAT score also improve?

It is important to my parents that I get good scores. I am interested in attending a conservatory program for music, so the SAT isn't my main priority, but I know I should keep my options open, and please my parents. What would the benefits be to preparing for each test separately? Would it make more sense to save $300 and pay for SAT study only? I'm kind of leaning toward this, I just wanted to know what others thought.

You should be fine preparing just for the SAT, I don’t think there is any real need for a PSAT-specific course. You also have the option of taking the October SAT at around the same time if you go this way.
