Separate Prom for Blacks and Whites

I love how this thread has lead to so much Northern self-righteousness. Of the notable race riots (going by wikipedia) in the last decade, 11 of 13 were in the North, and 2 were in New York.

^well if you thought about it, its not that amazing. The north and NY is extremely ethnically diverse, whereas the south consists of mostly whites and blacks. Blacks that are bullied by the white majority, as evident in this news article. So of course most of the race riots will happen in the North.

Seriously. And I’m from the North too.

^Ditto.

I mean, yeah, there’re some places in the Deep South with MAJOR race issues, but I’ve never been to any of them or had any race issues, despite living my entire life below the Mason Dixon line.

And that education stuff is crap. Yeah, ok, Louisiana spends the least per capita on education in a year (acc. to stats from a few years ago), but second to them is Illinois. Bad education and ignorance are everywhere. Don’t be arrogant because what you know of the South is from tv and movies.

Actually, that argument is not crap. Look at where the top colleges are located. Look at public school rankings. The numbers don’t lie.

There was a Lifetime movie about this topic. I think it was called For One Night.

On education, look at this thread on PSAT scores required to move on in the NMS competition in 2008:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/696125-psat-scores-national-merit-semifinalists-2009-h-s-class-2010-a.html</a>
The lowest scores all come from the south and northern midwest (ND, SD, Wyoming).

^Now, I don’t think that’s a fair indicator… For example, DC has one of the highest scores required, but DC schools are largely considered to be awful.

EDIT: Oh, and whoever, the top colleges are located in Northeast states not because people in the northeast are more educated, but because the Northeast was colonized first and cultural factors that no longer apply affected the founding of colleges. Also, that statement’s kind of BS, because William and Mary, UVA, UNC, Vanderbilt, Tulane, Emory, etc, are all in the south, and though they’re not Ivy-League, are damn good schools.

^actually, the south just had no need for colleges since they were all either slaveholders or hillbillies who wanted slaves.

^^ Lima, none of the schools you listed, with the exception of Tulane, are really in the thick of the south (Vandy and Emory in big cities, with the other three in more “northeastern” states).

And how do you know DC schools are considered awful when you live there (and therefore have no other comparison)? I’m sure most kids would be quick to assert their public school as “awful” as you have.

dunbar, everyone knows DC schools suck. Saying DC schools are awful is like saying North Korea just tested a very powerful nuclear warhead today.

Jesus, I didn’t think people really did this. Ridiculous.

Wow, thats pretty screwed up… interesting though.

That’s really sad.
