September 2010 ACT Math Discussion

Oh yeah, it was like y=x^2+7x+12 and you could make that y=(x+4)(x+3). Did that in my head but quadratic could help.

here’s an updated consolidated list:

sin x
Circle
10(1.12)^t
(x+3)^2+(y-4)^2=64
1 west, 1 north
46 degrees
sqrt(40)
28%
Quadrant 3
55 degrees
51 blocks
14, 26, 26
16 seconds
$10 per t-shirt
7.5
slope with movies: A
5 inches deep
2700
-3 and -4

and was there an answer x^2 - 11x + 120 or something?

That was “What is g(f(x))?”

^Yes, it was the only choice that ended with a number greater than 100, can’t remember it exactly.

Also, I got 8 times for what happens when you double the diameter.

what was 46 degrees to? and what was 2700 the answer to?

i got 2300, not 2700 (for one of the movie questions)

it was def 2700 cuz itt was clearly past the halfway mark between 2000 and 3000

46 degrees was the one where there was a triangle bewteen 2 parallel lines, with x, x, y and 70 degrees.

2700 was the predicted number of screens that a 10 million dollar movie would have to have been shown at.

What was the question for this one?

Also, this is the third consecutive test that the question regarding the parallelogram sides appeared. I mean, it’s the EXACT question with the SAME answer. Took it April '10, June '10 and today. Funny that they would do that.

yea 2700
and what was the one where it was like…
2 even integers give you the greatest product or something

^I got 2300. I thought it was before the 2500 mark

you look at the best fit line for the 2700 NOT the point which was on 2300.

and the 2 even integers multiplied to 840^

It was E—the biggest answer—for the two even integers question

@ nevergiveup16, it was 840, which was the last answer choice (so E or K)

nevergiveup it was E, 38 times 20 is 840, and they add up to 58.

golfer it was definitely 2700.

^golfer that’s not right because the graph was talking about the BEST FIT LINE. There was a point that had about 2300 but the BEST FIT LINE predicted a 2700, which is the right answer.

The great product of even integers that add to 58 was 28*30=840, right?

Don’t laugh b/c I made this harder than it should have been but what about that “cups of flour” question. Was it “4 dozen cookies required 3 1/3 cups, therefore 3 dozen required ___ cups?”

Was anyone surprised by the polar coordinates question? I got it right, but like if I hadn’t taken advanced math last year I wouldn’t have known it. And that one was 4.8 or 4 4/5 actfan.
