Seriously, why do all of Summer 2009's "top songs" suck?

I'm sorry for the rant, but I've been thinking about this for a while. There wasn't one new release this summer that was truly "good." I'd consider myself to be pretty diverse musically, but quite honestly, I think this summer's new music sucked.

Is this just me, or does anyone agree?

To mention a few of the "best" songs of the summer:

"I Know You Want Me" just sucks. It's annoying, and no one even likes rap these days. It wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't played every 5 minutes on the radio.

"You Belong With Me" started off okay, but when I heard it multiple times every day and all my girl-friends had it as their ringtone, it got old real fast. And this can't be "good," because it's typically for girls.

-"Im On A Boat" is just pointless.

"Fire Burning" doesn't even deserve an explanation. It's just crap.

"21 Guns," coming from Green Day, a band who really hit it off in 2006-2007, I expected to be decent. But it's so boring that it's hard to listen to. Seriously, what's the hype?

"You're a Jerk" is again, annoying, and hard to figure out why it'd be enjoyed.

"Not Meant To Be" was a decent song for the first half of the summer. But it ended up getting overplayed and got completely killed in mid July when it came on every 20 minutes.

"The Climb" just won't last. It's Miley Cyrus for god sakes.

-"If Today Was Your Last Day" is a boring song from a great band. It has a good message, but 80% of the lyrics are random and don't pertain to the message of the song at all. For example, "What's worth the price is always worth the fight."

Does anyone agree? Or disagree, for that matter? Was there anything "Decent" that I'm completely missing?

-

I have to agree with you, I was also disappointed with the songs this Summer:/

“knock you down” by keri hilson, neyo and kanye west was super good in the beginning but they play it at least 100 times a day so now it’s just absolutely boring.

i definitely agree with you on that “i know you want me” song, p.s. don’t listen to “hotel room” by pitbull, same song just different lyrics.

I think green day’s song isn’t bad but overall this summer has definitely been a letdown. I found consolation in discovering pretty good songs from the past.

Yeah for the most part. Although, I thought many of the songs off of The E.N.D were not bad. It was a pretty lame season for rock/alternative too.

best i ever had

annoying. IMO.

ya i guess its nothing unique but there are certain occasions when i like hearing a nice catchy, unoriginal, mass produced, autotuned song

top songs always suck, most people have no taste in music

This summer was pretty lame for songs. 2007 was one of the best years in recent memory, but we have nothing now. I laugh at Pitbull, his “Hotel Room” is better than “I know You Want Me” just because the beat is better IMHO (catchy/party songs are nice once in a while, but he stinks). “Knock You Down” was pretty good the first 5,000 times I heard it lol. I kinda like “21 Guns.”

Lady Gaga gets a lot of attention in my area, but her songs are the same with different titles haha. I can’t stand Miley Cyrsu or Taylor Swift (all her songs are the exact same). “You’re a Jerk” made me lol the first time I heard it, but it’s very annoying. Black Eyed Peas songs are ovverated/ovreplayed if you ask me. Their old stuff is better/more orignal.

“Fire Burning” is pretty boring/bad. His songs lack any real substance or inteesting parts, but I’ve never been a big fan of Sean Kingston. He shouts huatacuan waaay too much, but he has nice cars/house haha!Too bad most songs were bad…

Yeahh! I thought “You’re A Jerk” was a joke the first time I heard it.

Summer song = song you can blast. Therefore, You’re A Jerk is good.

-I Gotta Feeling
-Be On You
-Fuc.k Every Girl in the World
-Down
-Best I Ever Had
-Knock You Down
-Hotel Room Service
-I’m In Miami Bitc.h
-Chillin
-Beggin
-Outta Control

^Wow, I can’t stand most of those songs. Only ones I like on that list: Knock You Down, Down, and Chillin’ is okay, not too great. Older songs are what I listened to this year. Young Money is gross, meaning Lil’ Wayne & Drake are disgusting!

Have you heard the piano version of The Climb :P? There’s a really really good version of that on YouTube, and it actually sounds 100x better than the garbage Miley Cyrus came out with. I was honestly shocked at how bad her singing was (I never heard Miley Cyrus before that, and now I never will).

I’m not really all that crazy about current ‘top’ songs: they’re always rubbish. I stopped looking a long time ago. Now I end up listening to random stuff from anywhere between 1 year to 30 years old, and sometimes up to 200 years old :D.

Birthday sex! Birthday sex! It’s the best day of the year…

Originally I thought this song was terrible. But now I love it. Sure you hear it 20 times a day but its still awesome. And IMO a great summer song.

Also Lady Gaga just dominates. LOL @ her haterz. Just Dance, LoveGame, Poker Face, Paparazzi, etc.

^^^b-day sex uptempo version 1000000000x better

*** is wrong with you??? 2006-2007? Are you out of your fing mind? Their best CD was in the early 90s. Longview, Good Riddance, When I Come Around. THAT is Green Day. Ugh, don’t talk about bands unless you know what the * you’re talking about.

I’ve really turned to country this year because I can’t stand most of what’s on the air. I do like the Careless Whisper remake by Seether though.

Birthday Sex is fine, bu the uptempo version is MUCH better if you ask me. The original is just too slow and boring. Lady Gaga is fine for catchy, upbeat songs (I know people who looove her). Kid Cudi is pretty good, a like him. It’s been a long time since the album dropped, but I liked Eminem’s latest release as well.

oh ya i forgot about beautiful by em

@ romanigypsyeyes, I never heard of Green Day until I was in 8th grade =/

I guess I was referring to their popularity with this particular generation. I’ve never even heard their old stuff.

I am of your generation. Go look up some old Green Day and learn what the band is really about. Not the political bull that they deal in now.
