So I take it they really went down hill?

is international superhits what you are talking about^?

Good Riddance is an amazing song, but some of their newer songs (like past 5 years) are catchy & enjoyable. Everybody changes up styles, for better or for worse. Em has changed, as has Akon. Haha, I’m talking about hip hop/rap too much!

I do like some of their new songs (hate, hate, hate American Idiot). I really liked Wake Me Up When September Ends, but it still makes me cry because it was released when my sister’s fiance was killed in Iraq.

But, their older stuff is where it’s at. This band has been around since the late 80s and it really irks me that people only know their new stuff. What happened to the genius of the Dookie CD? It is completely lost on people who only know American Idiot and it’s sad.

Obviously you don’t listen to enough techno.

Paul Van Dyk’s greatest hits album came out with a great [remix of Nothing but You](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDugPeQBLbc)

Armin’s remix album was released. Cosmic gate did a massive [remix of Rain](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwCS8E0Frpw)

Markus Shulz’s Dakota project was decent. [Here is a good track.

Oceanlab’s remix album came out, not too much uplifting stuff except for this remix](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwCS8E0Frpw).

John O’Callaghan made what will likely be the trance album of the year with Never Fade Away, with such varied tracks as Megalithic, Broken, and Surreal.

Uplifting tune of the decade that came out this summer goes to Aly and Fila’s remix of Neptune Project’s Aztec. Or does that go to Sindre Eide’s Essentia? I don’t know, they both make me cry every time.

Those are just the top DJs, there were many minor DJs that came out with great stuff. DJ K, a local DJ here in Salt Lake City had about as many people on the floor at a recent rave as John O’Callaghan and came out with an excellent summertime mix. Nucvise released a few singles under his alias Adam Kancerski that frequently appear on many top DJs’ playlists.

There’s plenty of good music out there when you don’t listen to something that’s been created by computer algorithms to appeal to the maximum amount of people and get maximum radio time. Look it up–most pop music is made in just that fashion.

I’m really embarassed that I thought they were a relatively new band…

^ Haha, seriously, go look up the songs I listed. I promise you will know them (at least Good Riddance and When I Come Around). Get a musical education :).

Good Riddance is a good song. To be completely honest I had no idea that it was Green Day though. That was still really popular though in like 2007.

I personally don’t like When I Come Around.

Yeah the Birthday Sex uptempo is nice as well but I’m cool with either version.

And Em’s domination of Mariah was pretty cool. I sort of liked “Obsessed” for the song itself also.

Yea, I agree about Good Riddance being Green Day’s prime. We sang that song in our choir during graduation; it’s really a lovely song.

As for the topic of this thread. Most mainstream tends to suck. This summer was just a lot worse than usual. I mean the fact that it was degraded to the point that Miley Cyrus was included is rather pathetic.

^Haha, totally agree! She is teeeerrible

She’s famous, why?

I find Jessie James’ “Wanted” very catchy and uplifting =]

Best song of the summer. And I’m a dude.

How pitiful.

I usually just listen to the public stations or go online these days for music. A lot of those top songs I don’t even recognize.

^ word. The only song I really recognized was the boat song, the climb, and perhaps a one or two other songs. Usually every summer I recognize most, if not all, songs that became a hit. This summer’s was really blah because I never really heard/recognized/saw the songs around in places or they weren’t catchy enough for me to remember.

2008s summer music scene was a lot better, at least if you can’t give out a good message you can give a catchy beat other than “i’m on a boat mother****ers”

oh, listen to “make her say” by kid cudi. probably the best new song that i’ve heard this summer. birthday sex was just plain funny to make fun of.

It’s the radio; it’s not supposed to be quality music. Broaden your horizons.

I love Wakin’ Up in Vegas.

I agree with most of you that this summer’s been kind of a let down, but there’s been some really catchy stuff like “LoveGame” “Waking Up in Vegas” “Good Girls Go Bad” in my opinion. oh, and “she wolf” ahahaha

If you want some good, fun music, check out British pop acts - david guetta, little boots, la roux. 100000x better than pitbull, black eyed peas and other crap

hahaha, I totally agree.
I was expecting some amazing summer chart toppers, but most of them just plain suck.
However, Jay-Z’s new song “Run This Town” with Kanye and Rihanna was actually pretty good
Also, try Breakeven by the Script. The Script has awesome songs :D

yea i agree they’re not the best, but i still listen to them. But i’d have to admit although there haven’t been good summer 2009 songs, 2009 started off with numerous good ones. Heartless rocked the charts, and Lady Gaga surely made her mark even though i’m not a big fan of her songs.
