SesameWords Vocabulary is back

Long time members may remember a vocabulary website I created a while ago called SesameWords. To create it, I took my stack of about 60 real exams, entered all the vocabulary words manually over the course of a weekend, and ranked them by importance for the SAT. Two of the original threads are here:

When I stopped working full-time as a private tutor, I stopped maintaining the website, but I keep getting PMs from students who want the words, so I've put it back up. The URL is now <a href="http://sites.google.com/site/sesamewords/%5B/url%5D">http://sites.google.com/site/sesamewords/</a> but the old address (<a href="http://www.sesamewords.com%5B/url%5D">www.sesamewords.com</a>) should forward to the new site. (It looks a little different because I moved it to Google's free hosting service.)

I also uploaded all the words, with synonyms, to Quizlet, a great online flash card program that you people should all know about. To use flash cards for those words, you can go to the Quizlet group:

Some of the synonyms could be a little clearer, so I'll try to edit them again bit by bit, and I'll probably be adding resources (links, other handouts) to the page as I have time.

Hope this helps somebody. Best of luck studying, all.

thank you for this! I’ll go over the top and if i have time the mid frequency ones by march… do you have an idea how this list did on the more recent exams? just wondering.

Hi Snorlax!

Once I had convinced myself that the list worked consistently on several exams, I stopped counting so frequently. So I’m not sure. I did check it against several SATs, however, all released after I finished the list, and it did about as well. Basically, I proved to myself that the list contained all the words that even the most ambitious student could hope to memorize, and then I stopped worrying about it. At the time, a lot of other students were using it and getting really great results, so it seemed pretty proven.

If I check it against more recent exams, I’ll let you know. If you check it against more recent exams, let me know too!
