SESP Acceptance Rates?

Hi everyone! I’m applying to Northwestern RD and I was wondering about the difference between applying to Weinberg or SESP. When looking at other colleges, I always list my intended major as Sociology; however, NU’s Social Policy major sounds amazing. I’m hoping to go into education policy so I know this would be a great fit for me. However, I was wondering if there are any differences in the acceptance rates for the schools? Ie, if I apply to Weinberg, will I be looked at in the pool with other Weinberg applicants, or is it just one big Northwestern pool? I know SESP has a much smaller applicant pool, but would that positively or negatively affect my chances? I asked my regional admissions officer and she suggested applying to SESP; she said that since it’s such a specific program, I’ll know right away whether it’s right for me once on campus. The only thing I’m worried about is a lower acceptance rate for SESP applicants–if there isn’t one, then I’ll probably apply to SESP.

OMg I am also interested in education policy and am also deciding between applying RD to SESP or Weinburg!! I looked around on the ED thread and someone said that SESP’s acceptance rate was 8%?? I asked them to verify but I don’t think they replied. I think last year they took like 41 kids… Makes me a little nervous lol
That being said I heard it’s super easy to transfer internally to SESP; I think like 50 kids transfer in every year. It is also super easy to double major at NU!!

Okay, thanks for this! And yeah, it makes me a little nervous too. I definitely wouldn’t mind applying to Weinberg instead of SESP.
That’s interesting that you say that! When I visited last April, I heard from a Political Science professor that Weinberg takes in a lot of transfers from the other schools (since it’s the biggest one), but it’s a lot harder to transfer into the smaller ones. But I’m sure it’s not impossible, according to the numbers you cited! I’m sure we’ll be fine no matter where we end up

Sesp is very hard to get in to. The admissions counselor who came to my school told me Sesp’s acceptance rate is significantly lower than other schools because so many people switch in to it later on.

@cmayorga16 what school did you end up applying to?

@kolakoala Kind of late, but I decided on SESP
