Hey, I just had a question about the seven colleges that make up the Faculty of Arts and Science.

How do you choose? I know that you rank them according to preference, but as a hopeful Latin American Studies major, how do I know which one has my program?

Confused! I've been on the U of T website for probably a thousand hours and I have come to no conclusions.

they all have the same majors, all they decide is where you live. Some colleges have certain clubs and majors, but students from other colleges can join.

All students at U of T, regardless of which college they're in, have access to ALL courses. College selection can be important, though, particularly if you are a good academic student. Some colleges have much more scholarship $$ available than others. There are varying 'vibes' to the different colleges, too. It's important to visit, take a tour, see the dorms, talk to current students, and then prioritize your choices.

I'm gonna apply. I'm feeling that University College is my top choice. Could you tell me any information about the environment of that said college?

sarah, i went thru the same thing you did last year, and now i'm at u of t. honestly, i don't think there's any difference at all between the 7 colleges. once you're here, you have classes with everyone in all the diff colleges and the colleges are all on campus and close to each other it really doesn't make a difference.

university college is very beautiful, but from what i hear the residences are kinda old. if rez is very important for you, go for either woodsworth residence (thus woodsworth college) or trinity residence (thus trinity college) or chestnut residence (a residence a few blocks south of campus that houses students from all the different colleges). the rez that i hear suck are UC, vic, and st mike's. innis and woodsworth have apartment style rez (and woodsworth is very modern and nice). new college is just ok, they have 3 buildings, 2 old ones and one modern one. all 3 are actually ok. i personally live in chestnut and i think it's pretty great!

trinity is known to be the most prestigious college but the way i see it if you get a degree from u of t, it's a degree from u of t, no matter what college you're in.
