I am wanting to apply to Smiths college, Mount Holyoak, and Byrn Mawr this fall, but as I am homeschool I am unaware of their grievances towards homeschooled children, and I want to know if it is worth pursuing. I have combed through their websites and have found very little information to go on.
I plan on emailing them, but wish not to be to precocious; I do not want to contact them so soon before admission openings. ( What would be a good time to contact them with my questions?)
My real question is, have other homeschooled children and parents found that they are generally accepting of our education?
I graduated early, and am quite uneducated with this process, so please be kind with your answers!
I am not trying to be mean in any way, but please, clean up your spelling, grammar, and punctuation before you contact any college. What you have written here is extremely rough. Misspelling the names of the colleges would not reflect very well on you. Are you an international student? I almost sense that you are not totally comfortable with the English language.
I suppose I didn’t think I had to have top notch grammar on a forum like this… I do apologize. English is not my first language, my first language was not even a Latin langauge, but I am very comfortable with English. I wrote that post (and most of them) on my phone, quite quickly, in a place where autocorrect dominated. I do apologize it was so rough to read.
I am just confused with this process and looking for help. I attempted to clean up the grammar, but CC, won’t let me edit it; sorry!!!This is in no way the kind of content I would offer a college. Eeeppp…if anyone has any advice, that does not reflect on my grammar, or lack there of, please offer away!
All schools take homeschooled students, so you don’t need to worry about that.
You can find out everything you need to know online, and in August, when the Common Application becomes available, you can begin applying. As long as you have good scores and essays, you’ll be considered just as any other candidate would. If you are a junior now, you should begin asking coaches, and any outside teachers you have for letters of recommendation, The applications themselves will tell what additional info they require from homeschooled students.
If you can’t find the answers you need online, try calling the admissions offices during the summer.
It’s fine to contact the admission office to ask questions when the answers aren’t readily available on the school’s web site. I believe mount Holyoke’s web site addresses both the homeschool and english competency issues. If, after reading the website, you still have questions, make a concise list of your specific concerns and email or call the admissions office. Best of luck.
BTW, spelling, grammar and syntax aside, I understood your question just fine. That said, you will be required to take some standardized english testing, which you may want to start investigating ASAP.
Thank you for you answer!!
And thank you for you kind words!
I took the sat and got a 720 on my reading/writing.
I think I should be fine! (I am going to take it again to raise it though!)
