So in my freshman year of high school, I got 2 B's in Algebra 2/Trigonometry. Then, in the first semester of my sophomore year, I got a B in AP Comp Sci. However, I have had a 4.0 for 3 semesters and have not had another B in a science/math class (that includes: Pre-Calc Honors, AP Calc B/C, Freshman Bio, Honors Chem, AP Chem, Community College Physics and, hopefully this year, AP Stats and AP Bio). Do my horrendous early grades severely detract from my application? Is it enough to throw me out of the running? My only other B was in Freshman Lit second semester.

are you a rising senior or junior??

What were your cumulative grades for the whole year? I think those are probably more important. A few Bs, even in science and math classes, don’t bar you from admission to MIT. I got a B+ in zoology freshman year and another B in precalculus in tenth grade.

You’re fine, stop freaking out. I got lots of Bs (even some my junior year!) and I even got a C in APUSH (although I had a really good reason why) and I still got in.

I literally have nightmares almost every other night that the admoffs looking at my several B’s & are rejecting my app straight away!

I will put forward a very basic question here today for the MIT CC geniuses:

MIT is said to value passion more than mere scores & numbers. If this is not true, I can guarantee that I will never get in. I definitely have passion for what I do, but I dont have great scores, not even good scores (B’s) I didn’t do well on the standard tests & Olympiads.
In short, if evaluated in 2-dimensions, I’m just a waste of time for the admoffs; but my passion I hope gives me a third dimension, which I feel, makes me stand out. Here again, I would say I’m not at all a writer, so my essay wont be good either which means I cant express my ideas so colorfully, but can do it in rather dull language, which I dont know if it’ll even count. And lastly, even though I feel thrilled & excited when I follow my passion, but I dont have any achievement which distinguishes me from the rest, even though I do feel that I stand out in the way that I atleast always followed my passion & not did something that makes me look good only on 2D.

Please reply :(
