I was reading through the Serviceman Group Life Insurance Form, and I was just thinking, why do cadets need life insurance? Isn’t that something you generally get when you have kids? I just don’t see myself needing it. Any information on this topic would be appreciated

Take it, it is very cheap its @ 24/mo for 200K (I think that's the cost, I am positive of the pay out) Not every parent has life insurance, we have 25K for ea. kid that we bought when they were born. The only thing to remember is that you will most likely have your parents as the benefactors now, but remember to change it the day you get married. Unfortunately I can tell you several stories where the AD member died leaving a spouse and child behind, but the parents were still the beneficiuary and the parents refused to give the money over to the spouse.

If your folks have life insurance, than don't worry. When you become AD and deployed, they will force you to take it if you have dependents.

Max it out you will not get a better deal, and god forbid anyone left behind will be able to take care of things.

Health care and funeral arrangements can get pricey. I got enough to cover most possibilities (but not the full amount).

It's not something most of us like to think about, but it is good to be prepared for one's own demise.

Not only that, but remember if you have a credit card, and buy a car, that will have to be paid. As raimius said, it is not a happy thought, but even this year several of the academies have lost cadets.
