I was looking over the Servicemans Group Life Insurance information, and I noticed that I can decline the life insurance or lessen the amount. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

I don't know much about this but I plan to reduce it significantly since I don't feel that it is very likely that I will die while at the Air Force Academy. I may eventually change that when on active duty depending on what I feel the likelihood of death to be at that time.

I reduced my coverage. I doubt that most people's final expenses (especially after insurance) would amount to the full sum. Also, you will not need to support anyone with the coverage.

I just went for the lowest amount bit on that; probably change it later or somethin...

I went for the lowest amount (50,000). I figure I can increase it later, but it is not like I am currently supporting anybody that would need the money if I die. Right now at least, it is only to pay for expenses with my death.

I work for the company that writes this insurance for the military. Dolphins has it right -- if you are not supporting anyone (and you shouldn't be applying if you are), you might as well go with the minimum. One drawback: in the highly unlikely event that you get exceedingly ill in the next 4-6 years, you MAY not be able to increase the amount of insurance to cover your (new) family. A small risk IMO.

Alright, based off of what everyone else is saying I think I will go with just the lowest amount. Thanks for the responses.
