Shadowing a dentist for pre-med??

Ok so thoughts? Basically, I’ve already shadowed anesthesiologists and surgeons at a major hospital and I figured I wanted to shadow someone at a local smaller clinic to compare the experiences and lifestyle to get an idea of what type of environment I’d like. I know a dentists is NOT a physician, but will it help my application for med school? I figured I’d still be able to learn some diseases, skills, patient interaction, etc.? Should I do it or am I wasting my time?

Shadow a dentist because you want to be a dentist or explore what dentists do. I don’t want to waste MY time with someone who has zero interest in dentistry. And, unless you want to be an oralmaxillofacial surgeon it won’t help your med school app because you have to go to dental school first for that specialty.

You have already shadowed, do not waste your time in something not as related to the field of medicine. Shadowing is very passive and not as helpful as finding something active related to the field. Find something else to do related to medicine: research or pharmaceuticals? volunteering in an underserved area? Being a doctor, for the majority of us , is all about interacting with people, all day, all varieties, and most of them under some kind of duress.
