Hey guys,
If I was going to write that I shadowed a doctor on my resume would I put it as volunteering? Or an internship? Or a completely different category?
It wasn’t really volunteering since I would follow the doctor around while he was seeing patients and learn from him. I never actually did anything directly with the patients. Please offer your thoughts. Thanks!
Shadowing is done on a very short term basis as a way to observe if student would like to do the mentor’s job. Internship is longer than a shadowing position and is either tied to a school’s curriculum requirement (formal agreement is signed between the school and clinic or hospital and Provider signs on to be student’s preceptor) or if it isn’t, is directly related to gaining relevant, hands-on work experience in the student’s field of interest/major. Hope that helps!
