This is a debate topic that I will be debating on Monday in an open session. While I was writing out my debate points, I was interested in what the RGD community thought.

Both sides of the coin are welcome, but I'd appreciate thought-out answers, not just "We should withdraw because George Bush is an idiot."

Again, please don't turn this into a flame-war or a debate on whether or not it was right to invade Iraq in the first place. I would just like to know, shall we stay, and continue facing the challenges of Iraq, or leave, and risk a catastrophe?

I am very conflicted about this. My opinion as of now is that we should withdraw as quickly as reasonably possible. It just seems to me that the longer we stay, the longer we draw out the inevitable. We will leave in disgrace, it's just a question of now or later, and fewer people will die if we do it now. Of course, be "now" I mean gradually over the course of a year or two, not just packing up and moving out.

I agree somewhat with feuler. I think we need to leave within two years. The Iraqis are seriously oppresed and we didn't make it any better. Iraq should set up their own government with the help of America and we need to get our behinds outta there.

We can't leave, we have to make sure that they establish their government and their military and only then can we leave, once they can protect their own people.

We have to stay and make right what we started. We can't just leave them hanging...but as soon as we make sure they will be okay on their own, we should leave.
